So, in continuing with the theme I have done some research on the advantages of breastfeeding.
First, breast milk is best for your baby in terms of antibodies. A mother’s milk is specifically designed for their infant. There are some great formulas out their that are enriched with some essential proteins that mimic breast milk but no formula contains antibodies that are taylor made to keep your baby healthy and strong. This special formula has been shown to reduce a the likelihood a child will develop cancer, diabetes, allergies, and even diseases such as Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and Hodgkin’s Disease.
Secondly, when breastfeeding you are getting some skin on skin contact every time the baby eats which on average is every two hours. This not only helps the mother bond with her baby but it allows the baby to bond and feel secure.
It naturally delays the mothers fertility. That’s right girls. If you are exclusively breastfeeding your baby, frequently without supplementation you have a very low chance of getting pregnant! No birth control pills to remember just feed your baby.
Another huge plus, one that I definitely was a fan of is that you can breastfeed anytime, any place without having to worry about mixing a bottle, getting it to the right temperature and cleaning the bottles when you are done. You just find a quiet place where you feel comfortable and you are set. I can tell you that I am not the type to feel comfortable breastfeeding in public but I still found this to be an easy feet. If I was in a mall or a supermarket I would just go out to my car or find an empty dressing room. It really was quite easy. Also, you can get all kinds of different clothing that makes it easier from tank tops to shirts and they even have really cool decorative cover ups that go over your neck and provide complete coverage. If that still doesn’t work for you, you do still always have the option of pumping some milk ahead of time and then using a bottle when you are in public.
Next, as I mentioned before breast milk provides some essential antibodies. Your milk will also change as you baby grows and provide the exact formula of nutrition that your baby needs. Your body is programmed to anticipate the needs of your growing child and it provides excellent nutrition without need for supplementation.
Some huge health advantages for the mother occur as well. Research has shown that a woman who breastfeeds is less likely to develop certain types of cancer, decrease postpartum depression and it has been shown to decrease osteoporosis.
Lastly, and probably the most practical of all of the advantages is that fact that breastfeeding is FREE!! You don’t have to worry about running to the store because you don’t run out and with all the money you spend on everything else baby for examples; diapers, wipes, bibs, burp cloths, clothes etc. this can be a huge help to you wallets.

So, when searching the internet these days it seems very easy to find positives for the breastfeeding mother but what about the women that chose to use a bottle? Well I have done a little research and here are some BIG positives for the bottle.
First, when you use a bottle it is easy to tell the exact amount of formula your baby is receiving. For many mothers this is a big source of stress especially in the beginning. You can tell your baby is hungry because they show signs like sucking on their first, crying, or turning their heads. It is much harder to make sure they are getting enough. This is a big help especially when your baby needs to gain weight.
Another huge plus for a bottle feeding mother is the flexibility she has. She can run to the grocery store or go back to work without having to stress about pumping milk for her child or trying to figure out a place to breastfeed modestly. This makes it much easier to get back into a normal routine. Also, the mother will often be able to get more rest since she won’t be the only person able to get up in the middle of the night for a feeding. The nursing mother has to either get up or make sure she has pumped enough for someone else to help.
The next plus that goes along with the mother having more flexibility. If Mom is not doing the feeding that means Dad or maybe a responsible sibling can step in and do the job. This is a great way for the Dad or sibling to bond with the new baby. It’s a very special experience to feed your child and it is great when others get to experience it too especially the baby’s father.
As any mother knows a new born baby is hungry and they can be hungry often. As often as every two hours. The plus about formula is it isn’t as easily digested by the baby which allows the baby to feel satisfied for longer periods of time. It is very common for a formula fed baby to sleep for 3 or even 4 hours at a time. This again is very helpful especially in the beginnings weeks because Mom is able to get some much needed rest for longer stretches at a time. It also allows the baby to get some much needed rest for longer stretches of time.
And lastly, probably the most vein but still an important point is fashion. The mother doesn’t have to worry about what she wears out and about. It is often hard for a breastfeeding mother to pick an outfit that will be convenient for her to breastfeed discretely in public. So, as a bottle feeding mother you are free to wear whatever is comfortable that day because you will be able to feed your baby regardless.
So, as you can see though it may not be as prominently discussed there are many positive aspects to bottle feeding your child. Stay tuned for the positives for breastfeeding mothers.

This blog has been created for women to come aand leave comments regarding one of the biggest choices we as mothers have to make when it comes to our children. It is often one of the first decisions that we need to make. We get so much information thrown at us from the second we find out we a re pregnant. Our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, co-workers, people we don’t even know all try to tell us what is best for us. The truth is the choice to breastfeed or bottle feed is a completely personal decision and should be carefully thought out.
This blog will hopefully give Moms a place to come, vent and discuss. I know when I was pregnant with my first child I read so much research and listened to as much advice as I could. I want this blog to reach out to those first time mothers or second/third etc… mothers who might be having trouble coming to a decision whether or not the bottle or breast is best for them and their child. My hope is women will come and post comments and experiences that might influence or help others reach a more informative decision as well as make the process of reaching that decision a little easier.
